Glenn C. Lowe (1920 - 2015)

OLEAN - Glenn C. Lowe, of 1721 Goodrich Ave., passed away Wednesday (Aug. 12, 2015) at the Olean General Hospital, following a brief illness.

Glenn was born Nov. 7, 1920, in Little Genesee, and was a son of Archie and Ethel Amelia Reynolds Lowe. On Oct. 29, 1946, in Olean, he married his wife of 65 years, Ruth J. Smith, who predeceased him on May 4, 2012.

Glenn was a 1939 graduate of Olean High School. He attended the University of Florida at Gainesville, Fla., while he was a cadet in the Army Air Corps. Glenn also took courses at St. Bonaventure University. He served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 1943 to Jan. 1946, with the 3rd Infantry, 65th Division European Theatre and in Panama. Glenn worked as a building contractor for AH Lowe and Sons and then as a chemical operator for Nuclear Fuel Services in West Valley, where he worked for about 20 years, retiring in 1983.

Glenn was involved in the grant application process for the East Olean sewer construction from 1993 to 1995. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olean. Glenn was a member of the Olean Archery Club and the 65th Division Group. Glenn had his private pilot's license.

Glenn is survived by three children, Roderick (Sandra) Lowe of Laury's Station, Pa., Vance (Shirley) Lowe of Kennedy and Jamie (Paul) Geise of Olean; a son-in-law, Kimberly Torrey of Bolivar; 11 grandchildren, Debra (Michael) Stoner, Karen (James) Famularo, Krista (Phillip) Kochasic, Joshua (Sueann) Torrey, Brieanne (Derrick) Askey, Amber (Heath) Stone, Laura Lowe, Amanda (Mark Affronti) Lowe, Summer (Vernon) Gayton, Aaron (Bridgette Zawalski) Geise and Caitlin (Jason) Davenport; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Along with his loving wife, Glenn was predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca Torrey, who passed away March 13, 2015; two brothers, James and Robert Lowe; and a sister, Magdalene F. Barron, who passed away on the day before on Aug. 11, 2015.

Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
