Bio

Two of Amy Goodwyn and Thomas Goodwin Mitchell's children ended up settling in Thomasville, Georgia around the time it was founded in 1825. Colonel Richard Mitchell (b. 1791) married Sophronia Dewilde Dickey, and they built Fair Oaks Plantation located at 679 Blackshear Road, where they raised their family throughout the Civil War. Richard's younger brother Thomas Goodwin Mitchell, Jr. (b. 1793) married Elizabeth Alston.

While many of the Mitchell graves are dispersed amongst several Thomasville and surrounding counties' cemeteries, including Fair Oaks Plantation Cemetery and Wallace-Heard-Neel Cemetery, the majority of the descendants of Richard and Thomas are buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery, located between the 600 and 700 block of East Jackson Street.
