BIOGRAPHY: Taken from newspaper article: 43 YEARS AGO, Issue of Friday, Nov. 30, 1894. Ira Sluss and Frank Valentine, two enterprising young farmers of Houston creek, have purchased, and are now placing in position, the old Milo Adams saw mill plant.

BIOGRAPHY: Found two parcels of land purchased under the Homestead Act of 1862 purchased by Frank in Crook Co., Wy area. One was purchased 04 Aug 1902 and the other in 08 June 1908. I have requested copies of the Land Patent and any other papers that pertain to these two transactions that I can get by mail or as an attachment to an email.

1900: Spelling of surname is VALENTIN (the "e" was dropped) South Dakota: Spearfish City, Lawrence Co., Township 6, Sheet 11, Taken on 18th June 1900, Enumeration district 29, South Dakota. Frank, Mary, Elmer and unnamed dau (has to be Helen Amy) and Vaddy Scrivner (listed as Vadda Scribner) (Mary's sister) age 17,is also in the household. I also found Vadda Scrivner in the household of
Mr. Hay(g)es, Miner of Gold, as a servant/housemaid in the same area on the census taken on the 6th of June 1900, Page 7. Frank gave his date of birth on the 1900 census as Aug 1864. He said he was 35 years old as of June 1900. Spelling of Vaddy's name on the 1900 Census was transcribed as Vadder Scrivener..when I read the actual 1900 Census page, it appears to me to be Vadda Scrivener.

1902: purchased land, 160 acres under the Homestead Act of 1862 in Sundance, WY. Homestead entry original. Certified copy.

1910: Have not located the family in the 1910 census.

1920: South Dakota: Belle Fourche City, Butte Co., South Dakota, census taken 16th Feb 1920. Frank's age on the 1920 census is 54. Frank is listed as a carpenter.

1930: Washington State: Chelan county, First Creek Precinct. All within the National Forest. Frank is listed as age 64. Members in the household are Frank, Mary, Charles, Charlotte, and Kenneth.

Background: Mary's mother, Naomi Garrett Scrivener died March 14, 1892, and is buried Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Sundance, WY. Mary was 11 years old. She turned 12 the next month on April 7th, 1892. Thomas, Mary's father, remarried a woman named Rachael McConhey.

Mary went to live with her Uncle James Scrivener, Thomas' brother.

Ira Stark Sluss and Frank Valentine were business partners and friends. Ira was older than Frank. Ira died in the 1920's in WY. Ira Stark Sluss was a witness at the marriage of Frank and Mary.

Ira married Alta Scrivener, who was a cousin to Mary, (James' daughter). Alta was younger than Mary. Alta also signed as a witness to the marriage of Frank and Mary.

Frank and Mary were married at James Scriveners' house on December 24, 1896. Mary was 16 and Frank was 32. Frank's year of brith, based on his age in 1896, would have been 1864.

03/03/07: Received Land Records from NARA today in the mail. Frank states he was born in KY. He further states he was a farmer in Missouri before he came to Wyoming. He was in Wyoming by 1892. This record was for land with timber and stone. It was not suitable for cultivation. The land was sold to him for $400.00 in 1908.
