Evelyn King, age 74, a life long resident of Wellington, died Saturday, May 29, 1999.

Born October 29, 1924 in Wellington to Ralph and Ruby Curtner Ball, she graduated from Wellington High School in 1941. She then graduated from a business college in Dallas and was a secretary and bookkeeper for many years.

She married J. B. King on April 4, 1948 in Wellington. She was a member of the First United Methodist church where she was the historian, former church secretary, Sunday School teacher, active in UMW and the Esther Circle. She also served as president of the UMW. Mrs. King assisted in starting the Camp Fire Girls program in Wellington.

A member of the Order of the Eastern Star for numerous years, she was a past matron and was currently the chapter secretary, a position she had held for many years. She was a member and past president of the 1924 Study Club and she served as chairperson of the first Collingsworth County History Book committee. She taught at the Collingsworth County Community Action Center.

Survivors include her husband, J. B. King, of the home; two daughters, Marcia Henard of Wellington and Jacqueline Arnold of Amarillo and two grandchildren.
