Enoch Baker, Former Resident, Died in Minneapolis

Enoch Baker passed away on Wednesday, November 19th, 1924, at his home in Minneapolis at the age of 69 years, 9 months and 12 days. Mr. Baker lived in the vicinity of Chatfield when a boy and grew to manhood here. His early days were spent near Fillmore, and afterward he lived on a farm in Jordan township. He moved to Minneapolis about 14 years ago. The last services for the departed were held Saturday afternoon at Burr's funeral parlors, Central avenue, and at the grave were in charge of Arcana lodge, No. 187, A.F. & A.M of which Mr. Baker recently had become a member by transfer. The beautiful Masonic burial service was supplemented by an address full of sympathy, consolation and inspiration, delivered by Rev. Dr. Roy L. Smith, pastor of Simpson M.E. Church, Minneapolis. Among other things Dr. Smith alluded to the sixty-nine years of useful, upstanding, honest life; devoted unselfishly to the welfare of his family and loyalty to this friends. Dr. Smith further said that the departed had during his lifetime set a worthy example for his children and friends to follow. He had completed the building of his temple here, and is now gone to a more glorious life, incorruptible and eternal. The several musical selections of exceptional sweetness were sung by the male quartet of Arcana lodge. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. They were sent by friends and relatives of the deceased as well as by fraternal, business, and professional associates of the family. The esteem in which Enoch Baker and his family are held by all who know them was evidenced by these many tokens of sincerest respect, love, and sympathy as well as by the large number of friends present to pay their last respects to the departed. Burial was made in Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis. The deceased is survived by his wife and nine children: E.N. Baker, Morris, Ernest, Grace and Irene, of Minneapolis; Mrs. Joe Dudek, Chatfield; H.H. Baker, Stanford, Mont.; Mrs. Walter F. Barch, Washington, D.C. and Miss Mildred Baker, of Rochester. Ten grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters also survive.
