In 1850, his wife, Matilda McGregor (Gregory), aged 45, was living in Brookhaven, NY, with her children, James McGregor, aged 22, George McGregor, aged 20, John McGregor, aged 16, Mary McGregor, aged 9, Rebecca McGregor, aged 7, and Hannah McGregor, aged 5.

On September 23, 1850, Matilda Gregory and Hannah Gregory, both of Suffolk County, New York, were confined to the County jail for petit larceny. On the 26th of September, a letter was received from Mr. Wickham Jr., District Attorney, enclosing a petition for the pardons.
