Butler Remington was born on October 9, 1868 to Dennis H. Remington and Prudence Bell. There is conflicting information as to where he was born, it was either in Illinois or Labette County, Kansas. He was a farmer his whole life and continued to work the Remington farm after his father's death in 1895. The farm was located in Section 36, TWP 34, Range 20, Hackberry Township, Labette County, Kansas. Butler is found on all Federal and State Census from 1870 thru 1920 in the same location. He was married to Oma Mills, daughter of Rueben Mills and Amanda Taylor on January 4, 1892 at Oswego, Labette County, Kansas. Butler and Oma were the parents of seven children who grew to adulthood, Mary Virginia, Marcia, Goldie May, James Butler, Edd Joy, Oma Kate and Charles. There were several premature and still born infants that are buried on the Remington farm in a small cemetery near the house. Butler resided on the Remington farm until his death on March 7, 1927. He is buried beside Oma in Lake Creek Cemetery, Bartlett, Labette County, Kansas.
