Served with the 100th Bomb Group and lost his life when his plane, B-17 42-5860 / Poontang aka Escape Kit" enemy aircraft hit nose which caught fire, crashed at Schweinberg, 18 miles SW of Wurtzburg, Germany...Richard, son of Richard Hartwell King and Ethel Pickett, enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941. He was the pilot of the B-17 bomber, "Sunny" when it was shot down and crashed near Clichy, France.
