born 1663 in Shropshire, England
died 07 Oct 1736 in Monmouth, NJ
per Debbie H.

Alexander Dove emigrated from Scotland with the household of Thomas Gordon to New Jersey in October 1684.

Alexander Dove is mentioned in the book, ''Scotland and it's First American Colony 1683-1765, copyright 1985. By Ned C. Landsman: ''After completing his indenture, Dove took up headlands with another Scottish servant in Piscataway but he soon sold those lands and moved to Perth Amboy, where he worked as a carpenter. Not until 1701 did Dove again acquire land, obtaining a one- and- a -half - acre town lot in the capital. A year later Dove sold that lot and moved to Topanemus where he resided until his death in 1736.''

The information in the burial of his wife, Jane Dove, has been misinterpreted many times. The sentence: ''Jane, wife of Alexander Dove, who was born in Shropshire, in old England'' has been misinterpreted as meaning her husband, Alexander Dove , was from Shropshire. This is an incorrect reading of the sentence which clearly states that it was Jane that was from Shropshire. Her surname has not been proven and she appears many places as the daughter of Thomas Gordon, which is incorrect.

Information is found in the book:

''The old Middletown town book, 1667 to 1700; The records of Quaker marriages at Shrewsbury, 1667 to 1731; The burying grounds of old Monmouth'' by John E. Stillwell. Page 47
