William was a son of William Harvey II(1744-1819)and Polly Jane Robinson Harvey(1749-1844). Junior or the II had served in the Revolutionary War as a private soldier in Captain Garland Kurnley`s Company of "Albemarle Barracks Guards" under Colonel Francis Taylor`s, 9th Virginia Regiment. Before this it is believed he served in the 13th Regiment of the Virginia line and may have been engaged at the Battle of Brandywine Creek, Pa. and the Battle of Germantown. Pa., where he was believed captured by the British.
Junior was born in Culpepper County, Virginia along with all his siblings.
William the III first married Elizabeth Cook(2/14/1774-10/08/1825)about 1792 in Kentucky. His second wife was Jane Givens Morin and they married in Howard County, Missouri in March of 1826. Morin was Jane`s first husbands last name.
One of William`s daughters by his first wife was Nancy Harvey(8/08/1798-2/28/1873). Nancy married Richard Washington Lee(9/15/1796-8/05/1882)born in Kentucky, on 1/08/1818 in Howard County, Missouri. Both of these families moved to Missouri from Madison, Co., Kentucky in 1817.

He also served in the War of 1812 in the 13th Regiment of Kentucky Militia and was at Dudley`s Defeat across the river from Ft. Meigs, Ohio. This Battle occurred on May 5, 1813.
