Musician. A drummer, he was best known for his association with Neil Diamond. He attended Emory University where he studied social work, and while attending college he was drawn to music and formed his own band. He ventured out to California during the mid-1960s and was able to acquire experience with Otis Redding and Roy Orbison, prior to beginning his contributions to Neil Diamond in 1971, serving as drummer and musical director. The classic live album "Hot August Night" (1972) was among the first works on which St. John had an impact. Over the next decade, he lent his musical talents to Diamond's timeless hits "Song Sung Blue" (1972), "Longfellow Serenade" (1974), "Love on the Rocks" (1980) and "America" (1981). It was his drum playing on both The Bellamy Brothers' 1976 number one hit "Let Your Love Flow" and Linda Ronstadt's recorded version of "Desperado".
