Stella Mae Hutchings, of Palestine, a native and longtime resident of Wellington, died Monday afternoon, March 26, 2001 at the age of 8O years.
Born Sept. 6, 1920 in Dozier to Ruby and Lester Tenison, she was raised in Wellington and was a 1937 graduate of Wellington High School.
While living here, she worked for the Wellington State Bank. She married George Stokes Hutchings May 31, 1958 and moved to Palestine where she worked at the Royall National Bank.
A talented artist, Mrs. Hutchings received many ribbons from art exhibits and had her own "one man art show." The Palestine Herald Press carried a feature story of her and her art work. She was a member of the Palestine Art League serving as secretary and as treasurer. She also loved crafting and working in her flower garden.
She was a member of the Crockett Road Church of Christ where she had taught Bible class. Her zest for life, her laughter and her devotion to family and friends will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Stokes Hutchings; her son, Denny Harris and her sister, Billye Castleberry.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Rusty Mathis of The Woodlands; her son, Bobby Harris of Wellington; her sister, Travis Templeton of Wellington; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchilren.
