Professional Football Player. For seven seasons (1984, 1986 to 1988, 1990 to 1992), he played at the quarterback position in the National and Canadian Football Leagues with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers and Toronto Argonauts. Born Blair Armstrong Kiel, he attended Columbus East High School and played collegiate football at the University of Notre Dame. While with the Fighting Irish under Hall of Fame coach Dan Devine, Kiel earned the rare distinction of being their starting quarterback during all four years he was with the team. He made a lasting impression on the program when he set a school record with a 96-yard pass in a game against Georgia Tech in 1981. Kiel experienced a bowl game title when he lead Notre Dame with his stellar performance to a 19 to 18 victory over Boston College and Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie in the Liberty Bowl on December 29th, 1983. To date, he remains within the top ten among the leaders in the school's history in passing yardage and completions. Selected by Tampa Bay during the 11th round of the 1984 NFL Draft, he appeared in 25 regular season games, compiling 1,296 passing yards with 8 touchdowns. During his years with Indianapolis, he shared starting quarterback duties with Jack Trudeau and Gary Hogeboom and while with Green Bay, Kiel rotated with Mike Tomczak and Dan Majkowski. He concluded his professional career while with Toronto of the CFL in 1992.
