"Franz" and "Maria" are listed as his parents on his death certificate. Birthplace "Umbach, Bavaria" according to his obituary. Umbach just means "river". "Umbach" can also simply mean "by the river."

If his middle name was Anton, then he could have been born in Umpfenbach, Miltenberg, Bavaria to Franz Josef Glab and Maria Anna Bauer; Umphenbach is similar to "Umbach". The officials in Milwaukee may have just miswritten the place name. Umphenbach is near Aschaffenburg.

Through DNA testing on myself I've confirmed he is from the Aschaffenburg Landkreis area since I and a DNA 6th cousin descend from Rosenbergers in those towns who married Glaabs frequently. Name variation of spelling "Glab" appeared on a landmap shortly after his arrival in Wisconsin. Most of the Glaub family in Bavaria would have used the Glaab spelling. A librarian married to a Glaab who lives currently in Schimborn wrote in the 1990s in a letter to a cousin from St. Louis area that Schimborn is considered the hometown of Glaubs, Glaabs and Glabs.

He was 57 years old when he died, according to Church records, but was 58 years old according to his death certificate, which states also that he was a carpenter.

He was a member of St. Michael's Church at the corner of N. 24th St. and Cherry St. (1466 N. 24th St?).

Joseph lived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1850 but moved to Chicago and then settled in Milwaukee in 1852, according to his obituary. He lived in Appleton, Outagamie County, Wisconsin before moving to Milwaukee at some point early in the 1850s.
