Sophie Ventimiglia, 93, of Las Vegas, passed from this world to the next December 8, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Ventimiglia, loving mother of Thalia Coutoumanos Wilcox (Paul), and George Coutoumanos (Evelyn), grandmother of Thomas Wilcox, Vincent (Julia) and Steven (Sandra) Coutoumanos, and great-grandmother of Annastasia Sophia, Hank, Ellie, John, Megan and Lauren Coutoumanos. Sophie came to Las Vegas from Detroit in 1959. She established herself as an entrepreneur of note, across the years opening eight beauty salons locally, three on the west coast and one in Anchorage. She possesses superb business acumen, and even in her 70's, opened and managed five gift shops. Sophie was truly one of a kind. She gave of her time and generosity to numerous organizations and many more people in need. She was an animal activist who was not to be trifled with. She is loved and remembered by all that knew her, and will be sorely missed. With her passing, an era of kindness, civility, graciousness, good manners, and respect pass as well. God rest her soul.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 14, at St. John's Greek Orthodox Church, 5300 El Camino Road, Las Vegas.

Graveside services will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1500 Las Vegas Blvd. N. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA.
