Austrian Nobility. Morganatic wife of King Friedrich Wilhelm III. of Prussia. Friedrich Wilhelm met her in 1822 during a vacation in Treplitz. He had become very lonely after his first wife Luise had died and his daughters had left Berlin after their marriages. He wished for a companion for his last years and found it in the thirty years younger girl. She was created Princess of Liegnitz and Countess of Hohenzollern on November 8, 1824. One day later she became Friedrich Wilhelms second wife. During the 16 years of their marriage she always stayed in the background and never tried to influence his political decisions. She accompanied him to his vacations in Treplitz and Königsberg or to troop inspections in different parts of the kingdom. In those last years she took care of the ailing husband and won more and more the love, respect and confidence of the royal family. When Friedrich Wilhelm became ill in May 1840 she became his devoted nurse. He died in June 1840. As a widow she traveled through Italy, England and Switzerland. She bought the "Villa Augusta" at Lake Geneva. She often visited Bad Homburg where she died, too. Her grave is under the Mausoleum and can't be visited.
