"Charles Friedersdorff, Esq., Custodian of Federal Building and Popular Citizen, Falls Victim of Pneumonia
Mr. Charles Friedersdorff died at 12:40 today at the Red Cross Emergency Hospital. He was taken down with the influenza about ten days ago and developed pneumonia. A particularly sad feature of the case is the present serious illness of his wife and daughters with the influenza. His son-in-law, Mr. Robert Glass, and grandson, master Charles Frederick, have been sick but are convalescent.
Charles Friedersdorff was a son of Conrad Friedersdorff, Esq., a prominent merchant and pork packer of Madison, and highly educated in the schools of Germany. Charles was one of a large family of children, Albert, George, Charles, Frederick, and several sisters. The two older brothers died in Madison and the sisters married and removed from here.
The deceased was engaged in business with his father in early manhood and afterwards conducted a poultry, butter and egg house alone. In 1897 he was placed in charge of the Madison federal building, and proved one of the best officers of the kind in the service. He was the recipient of many commendations and compliments from government officials for his intelligence and fidelity in the discharge of his duties.
Mr. Friedersdorff is survived by his wife, a half sister of Mr. Will A. Barber, and two daughters, Mrs. Robert Glass and Mrs. John Ozman; also by one son, Mr. Carl Friedersdorff of Evansville, Indiana.
The deceased was a member of Fire Company Number Two, the Woodmen, Juanita Red Men and Haymakers and the Christian Church. He had many friends and will be greatly missed by them and the community. Mr. Friedersdorff was 56 years of age. The time of the funeral has not yet been announced."
