EAST LAYTON - A 23-year-old Layton woman is missing and police and sheriff's deputies in Davis County are investigating the possibility she was abducted.

Nancy Perry Baird, 23, of 471 Wasatch, Layton, was reported missing about 5:30 p.m. Friday from her work at the Triangle Oil Company's Fina Station at 200 S Highway 89 here.

YOUNG SON
Mrs. Baird, the mother of a four-year-old boy, had been working alone at the self-service gas station on the July 4th holiday since 3 p.m. The disappearance was discovered by store manager Bonnie Peck.

Officials said the missing woman is divorced and her son is staying with relatives. The child was apparently also with relatives at the time of the disappearance. In a statement released jointly by Davis County Sheriff William J. "Dub" Lawrence and East Layton Police Chief Ray A. Adams, it was reported there were no signs of a struggle or theft from the station.

Chief Adams said Mrs. Baird's purse had been left at the station. He said the station had been checked by a city police officer on patrol not more than 15 minutes before the disappearance was discovered

14 DEPUTIES
Sheriff Lawrence said his officers were called into the case early Saturday and 14 deputies joined four East Layton officers in conducting a ground search of the mountains and roads of North Davis County through Saturday.

A Salt Lake City Police Department helicopter was also called in for about three hours, but the search was fruitless, the sheriff said. He said all leads are being checked, but officials still have not found evidence that would confirm the girl was either abducted or simply left her job.

The missing woman is described as about 5-foot-3, 100 pounds, with hazel eyes and long, straight reddish-blonde hair.

NO EVIDENCE
She was reportedly wearing blue shorts, a blue halter top, and a light-blue pin-striped smock with a Fina Station symbol at the time of her disappearance.

Officials said they have found nothing to indicate the incident is connected to the nine-month-old disappearance of a Viewmont High School senior from the parking lot of the school. Debbie Kent, of Bountiful, was reported missing last fall and has never been found.

NO NEW LEADS IN DISAPPEARANCE

EAST LAYTON -- No new leads have developed in the disappearance of Mrs. Nancy Perry Baird, 23, 471 Wasatch Dr., Layton.

Mrs. Baird has been missing since the afternoon of July 4, when she disappeared from a Fina Service Station here, leaving her purse and car behind.

She was employed as an attendant and had begun her 3 p.m. to midnight shift a little more than two hours prior to her disappearance.

She is the mother of a 4-year-old. The boy believes his mother is vacationing.

"We are at a dead-end," East Layton Police Chief Ray A. Adams told the Deseret News today. "Sgt. Floyd Dansie of the Davis County Sheriff's Department will have another man look at some photographs, and he is contact we have."

Adams said he planned to meet today with the Sheriffs Department, which has worked closely with him in the investigation to determine "which route to travel."
