It's difficult at this point to determine my grandfather's history. It appears that his "father," Anton Sackach, made several trips back to Europe, leaving his wife Mary in the States. Apparently my grandfather was conceived during one of these trips while Anton was travelling. At some point during his school years (and after 1920) he changed his surname to "Burton" - my father always told me he just picked it more or less at random from the phone book.
