LYDIA (LACKMAN) LEI - WERKELE 1916-1999
Wheatland, Wyo---Lydia Werkele, 83, of Wheatland, Wyo., died Sunday, May 30, 1999 at the emergency room at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 3, [1999] at the United Church of Christ in Wheatland, [WY] with the Rev. Thomas Hall officiating. Interment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery. The Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the United Church of Christ; P. O. Box 444, Wheatland, Wyo. 82201.
She was born March 29, 1916 in Billings, Mont. to Jacob and Eva (Ring) Lackman. In 1918, the family moved to Scottsbluff, where she was reared and educated. She married Ben Lei Dec. 8, 1935 in Harrisburg. She was then married to Fred M. Werkele Feb. 1, 1950 in Torrington, Wyo. They moved to a farm near Wheatland in the spring of 1951, and they resided there until moving into Wheatland in the fall of 1972. She resided in Wheatland until the time of her death. She was a member of the United Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking and playing cards, especially Canasta. She was a care-giver to several elderly people in Wheatland.
Survivors include son Bob Lei of Wheatland; daughter Donna Werkele of Wauneta [NE]; stepsons Bill Werkele of Cheyenne, Wyo., Marvin Werkele of Torrington, and Fred Werkele of Lakewood, Colo., 14 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; daughter Judy Hayden; one sister; and three brothers. Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Werkele, Ben Lei, Joe Hayden, Tom Hayden, David Hayden, Rick Werkele, Kelly Werkele, Tom Werkele, Bret Werkele, and Shaun Werkele.
