When Robert was three years old, a group of LDS missionaries came to Hammond, NY to convert folks. Only a very small group converted, but one was Robert's parents. They decided to head west along what is now the Morman trail all the way to Utah. Robert's two younger siblings were born along that trail. (David McIntier was born in Easton, Tazwell, Illinois and Mary McIntier was born in Naravoo, Harrison Co. Iowa where she died Nov. 1843 and was buried). Sometime after the Morman party left Council Bluffs, it appears Simeon left Isabella and she did not know where he went. His mother married William Austin, her brother-in-law who was already married to Agness Nicol.
In 1844 Robert was baptized into the Morman Church probably in the Mississippi River Fifteen children were born to them.
In 1865 Robert Nicol married Catherine Mariah Rose, b. Mar. 16, 1850 along the Morman Trail in Council Bluffs, Iowa dau. of John Rose and Aurelia Manervia Peet who also took the Morman Trail trek. Ultimately after living in Utah, they settled in Lyman, Fremont Co. Idaho
