Beulah Catherine Henke, the last living child of David and Laura Shearrer died on Thursday, May 22, 2008. She was born in Patterson, Missouri on October 8, 1906 and moved with the family to Christine, Texas in 1908 and later moved to Poteet, Texas. The six children of David and Laura span three centuries of living, with Edgar Shearrer being born October 18, 1898 and now Beulah living into the 21st century. Other children of David and Laura Shearrer were Raymond, Gladys, Henry, and Audry. Beulah was 101 and 7 plus months young this past week. She was dedicated mother, elementary school teacher and person of great faith. Beulah graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers college with a 3 year teaching certificate. She later completed her 4 year degree from Our Lady of the Lake College. She taught in the public schools of Fashing, Verdi, Pleasanton, Poteet and Jourdanton. While in Fashing she met her husband, the late A.F (Paul) Henke and was married on December 26, 1934. Her children are LaVerne P. Johnson of Key Largo, Florida and Gerald A. Henke of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Beulah and Paul began their lives together in Fashing, Texas. In the 1940's they moved to California where Paul farmed with a cousin of Beulah's for a few years. Family was very important to Beulah and when they had the choice they moved quickly back to Texas settling in Pleasanton. Beulah and Paul raised their children in Pleasanton and when they retired they lived in Missouri a short time and then Beulah moved to Florida to be near LaVerne. In the 1990's Beulah moved back to Texas, the place she loved and was living in San Antonio when she pased away. She was a member of the Jefferson Church of Christ in San Antonio. Grandchildren are Chiara Siragusa of Houston, Texas (LaVerne and Martin Johnson) and Natalie I. Stark of Farmington, New Mexico and Tyler D. Henke of Phoenix, Arizona. (Gerald A. and Gale C. Henke). Great Grandchildren are Carson M. Stark and McKenna N. Stark (Natalie and Michael Stark). Beulah's first two granddaughters have a special date of rememberance with their grandmothers, Chiara's birthday is the same day as Beulah's birthday, October 8th and Natalie's birthday is the same date as Gale's mothers birthday, April 9th, the late Mildred Clawson of Ramah, New Mexico. Beulah will be laid to rest by her parents in Poteet. A graveside service will be held at the Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet, Texas at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 27, 2008.
