Wedding Anniversary: May 14, 1960

Birtie Ruth Campbell King, 86, of Crossett passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009. Ruth was born to Garfield and Bertie Lee Pilgram Campbell on September 26, 1923, one of five sisters. She attended Hamburg High School.

Ruth was a retired department manager/sales clerk over fabrics in the Crossett Wal-Mart,working in the old Wal-Mart building. She had also worked at Beall's Department Store when it was located in the old building which is now the Crossett Mini-Mall.

An active member of Beech Street Missionary Baptist Church, Ruth and husband Bill were pillars of their community, donating to their church, as well as helping those in need.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 48 years, William (Bill) King; one daughter, Shirley Mann; her parents, Garfield and Bertie Campbell; and four sisters, Carrie Naff, Louise Hays, Lois Hunter and Christine Prescott.

Ruth is survived by her son, Ted Thurman, of Oak Ridge, Louisiana; two granddaughters, Stacy Cater and Windy Jones and several great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends.

Funeral services were held in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home in Crossett on November 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. Bros. John Way and Donnie Dubose officiated and interment followed at Hickory Grove cemetery, south of Crossett. Pallbearers were Bert Hays, Jr.; Justin Grider; Sonny Rainey; Glen Naff, Roger Naff and Steve Naff.
