In 1910, little Maude Goodhall, age 2, lived with her parents in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.
In 1920, Maude, age 12, and her parents, James, age 38, and Tencher, age 31, were living with Tencher's parents, Alfred, age 69, and Sarah, age 68, Joyner. All family members were born in Georgia except her father, James H. Goodhall, who was born in England and immigrated to the USA in 1900.
Around 1926, Maude E. Goodhall married Charles H. Gay. They had 2 children, daughter, Barbara J (1927) and son, Edgar (1930) Gay.
In 1930, Maude Gay, age 22, was living with her husband, Charles Gay, age 27, and children, Barbara, age 2, and newborn Edgar, in her mother-in-law's household, widowed Lena M Gay Fetzer, age 55, in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia. They were all born in Georgia except Mrs. Fetzer was born in Germany.
In 1940, Maude Gay, age 31, was now divorced and working as a Department Store saleslady while living with her parents, James, a Railroad watchman, age 57, & Tencher, age 47, Goodhall and her children, Barbara, age 12, & Edgar Gay, age 10, in Savannah, Georgia.
After 1940, Maude E. (Goodhall) Gay married Charles L. Mutter. Eventually, they lived at 504 14th St, Tybee Island, Chatham County, Georgia.
Maude was close to her first cousin, Bob Bennett, son of her Aunt Leora (Joyner) Bennett Ellison, her mother's sister. Maude's mother, Tencher, had been close family to Bob. In June 1981, Maude visited Bob in Nevada and he would visit her family in Georgia. He later moved to Tybee Island, GA to be close to her and family.
Maude was a civil service worker at Hunter Army Airfield. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Catholic Church on Tybee Island. She was a member of the Tybee Island Golden Age Club, the Garden Club and St. Michael's Women Auxiliary. By 1998, her family had grown to include 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
On Oct 21, 1998, Maude E (Goodhall) Mutter, age 91, died at Memorial Medical Center, shortly before her husband died at Candler Hospital, both in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia. Rosary Service was at 6 p.m. on Thurs, Oct 22, 1998, at St. Michael's Catholic Church and Mass of Christian Burial the next day at 2 p.m. at the Church with burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Savannah, GA.
6-6-2011, her relative, Sandi Correia, commented on Maude Mutter: "Maud was a really beautiful woman. When she was young she favored Gloria Swanson very much. She was also very elegant and carried herself with so much grace."
