Actor. He is best remembered for his recurring portrayal of the headstrong Duke Dukowski on the television show "Adam-12". Born George Brendlinger, after serving in the United States Army during the Korean War, upon returning to civilian life following the end of the war, he settled in California and under the G.I. Bill, he attained his degree in theatrical arts from the UCLA. While appearing in stock companies, he was discovered by director Franklin J. Schaffner. Impressed by his dark good looks, manly physique, and distinctive voice, he took notice of his potential and arranged for him to begin a career in the film and television industry beginning with him being under his supervision in a supporting role on an episode of "Studio One". From there, he would go on to flourish as a notable supporting character actor; often typecast as husbands, fathers, white-collared workers, playboys, cowboys, authority figures, businessmen, retail clerks, neighbors, best friends, clergymen, educators, doctors, and patriarchs. He appeared in such feature films as "The Proud and the Profane" (1956), "Young and Dangerous" (1957), "Riot in Juvenile Prison" (1959), "Cimarron" (1960), and "Inside Moves" (1980). On television, he flourished as a household name appearing in various guest spots on such syndicated sitcoms as "Telephone Time," "Whirlybirds," "Gunsmoke," "The Walter Winchell File," "Wanted: Dead or Alive," "Mike Hammer," "Steve Canyon," "M Squad," "Trackdown," "Pony Express," "The Lineup," "Checkmate," "Johnny Ringo," "The Rifleman," "Tales of Wells Fargo," "Alcoa Premiere," "Have Gun - Will Travel," "Bonanza," "Perry Mason," "Slattery's People," "The Fugitive," "Iron Horse," "Banacek," "Mod Squad," "Chase," "Medical Center," "Rich Man, Poor Man," "Matt Helm," "Executive Suite," "Emergency!," "Police Story," "Falcon Crest". During his career, he was a member of the Screen Actors Guild, was supportive of the Motion Picture and Television Fund, had been a regular parishioner of the Temple Israel of Hollywood, was an active member of the Hollywood Democratic Committee, presided as a chairman for his local charters of the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity, was a theatrical instructor for the Pasadena Playhouse, had been on the founding members of the Canyon Theatre Guild, and he was married to fellow actress Kay Nickell from 1963 until his death (their union produced no children). After appearing in what would be his final guest appearance in an episode of "General Hospital", Brenlin died unexpectedly from the complications of undisclosed causes.
