Margaret MacDonald was a victim of the Halifax Explosion. She was killed along with eight children and two grandchildren. Several of her extended family members and their families also died. Her husband and one son survived.

Margaret was a member of the extended Jackson family through her parents James Jackson and Elizabeth Halloran.
Eight of her adult siblings lived in Halifax with their spouses and families. This produced a corner of Halifax that was referred to as 'JACKSONVILLE' by locals.

It is believed the extended Jackson family suffered the worse loss of the Halifax Explosion. The extended family included around sixty-four people in Halifax. About forty-six died.

She married Vincent MacDonald and had the following children:

Mary Elizabeth (June 1897-6 Dec 1917)
Vincent John (September 1899-Dec 1 1899)
Ethel (Sep 1900-6 Dec 1917)
Emma Anne "Annie (Feb 1903-6 Dec 1917)
Charles (Sep 1907-6 Dec 1917)
Albert William (1908-6 Dec 1917)
Gordon Richard (6 Feb 1910-?)
Arthur Roy (23 Mar 1912-6 Dec 1917)
Allan (1914-6 Dec 1917)
Carroll (1916-6 Dec 1917)

At the time of the Explosion, the Jackson-MacDonald lived at 1498 Barrington Street, Halifax. The family lived their with daughter's husband, two small sons, and mother-in-law.

Barrington Street was one of the hardest hit streets.

Many of the Jackson siblings lived on or around Barrington Street.

The remains of Margaret and her family were identified by her husband Vince, and buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
