James E. Shepherd, 73, of Fruitland Park, died Tuesday September 27, 1966 in the Lake City Veterans Hospital following a brief illness. Born August 28, 1893 in Adrian, Ga. he came to this area 24 years ago from Lyons, Ga. By occupation Mr. Shepherd was a farmer. He was a member Community United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War I. Surviving are: his wife Jewel E. Shepherd of Fruitland Park; five sons James D. Shepherd of Fruitland Park, Charles E. Shepherd of Orlando, Walter H. Shepherd of Washington DC, Mickey R. Shepherd of Thessalonike, Greece, and John R. Shepherd of Mt. Dora; four daughters Betty MacAfee of Fruitland Park, Ruth David of Cannonsburg, Pa, Alice Bennett of Leesburg, Jean Doyle of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four brothers, Thomas D. Shepherd of Soperton, Ga., Joe B. Shepherd of Lyons, Ga., Henry B. and Frank Shepherd both of Fruitland Park; two sisters Mary Brown and Lizzie Sconyers both of Lyons, Ga., also 38 grandchildren and five greatgrand.
