Yvonne Harris Witwer, 67, of 5220 Hamsford Road, Woodford, VA, died at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital on Friday, January 16, 2009. Born in Pasquotank County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Fleetwood Harris and Elsie Jones Harris, and the wife of Robert Witwer of the residence. Mrs. Witwer was a retired U.S. Government administrator for the F.B.I. and the State Department, a member of Church on the Rock in Stafford, VA, and a former member of Mount Herman United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City, NC.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Witwer is survived by a son Alan Tucker of Front Royal, VA, five step sons Robert Witwer and Benjamin Witwer of Ridgecrest, CA, Nathan Witwer and Lincoln Witwer of Fredericksburg, VA, and Leo Conring of Rock Mart, GA; one sister Marie Harris Snell and husband J.B. of Elizabeth City, NC; three brothers Miles Harris and wife Francis, Gary Harris and wife Rene, and Randy Harris and wife Sarah all of Elizabeth City, NC; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 23, 2009, at 2:00 PM in Twiford's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Haywood Gilliken officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of J.B. and Marie Snell, at 208 Pasquotank Station Road. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 is in charge of arrangements.
