Martha could not be buried with her husband in the Mount Olive Cemetery in Scurry because the roads were too muddy for the wagon to make it to the cemetery. She is buried somewhere in the Kaufman Cemetery without a marker of any kind.

Phillip & Martha came to the US from England in the late 1860's settling first in New York and then in Missouri where several of there children were born. They were in Parker County, Texas by 1886, when their last child Robert Joseph Cave was born [birth county stated by RJ on his WWI registration]. They then moved to Kaufman County, Texas, where they lived for the remainder of their lives.

Obituary (source unknown, although states "The Post" in the obit):

Mrs. Martha Cave

Mrs. Martha Cave was born in London, England, in 1841, and came to America with her husband Phillip Cave in 1866 settling in New York, where they resided about two years. From New York they removed to Shelby County, MO, making that their home for seventeen years after which they came to Scurry, Kaufman County, Tex, where on Oct 13 1893, Mr. Cave died(. Mrs Cave died) at her home near Kaufman on the morning of Feb 2nd following an illness lasting only a day or two, and after a long and useful life Mrs. Cave went to join her husband in that home not made with hands. Having lived in the County for twenty seven years, of a genial nature this good woman made many friends here who loved her in life and deeply mourn her death.

She was a faithful constant Christian for many years being a member of the Church of England. More than seventeen years ago she united with the Christian Church and was ever a willing helper in whatever enterprises the church undertook. She was always kind courteous and considerate to those about her, and her constant love in her children was a beautiful trait of character for which she was so much appreciated.

Surviving her are the following children, all of whom were with her to the last, Mesdames W. B. Hampton and Jeff Daggett (Doggett) of Scurry, George, Charlie and Bob Cave of Kaufman, S. H. Cave of Crandall, and Tom Cave of Goldthwaite.

The funeral services were conducted at the home of Elder B. Mizell, a longtime friend of the family assisted by Rev. M. D. Dickey, pastor of the Christian Church.

To the bereaved family The Post extendends (sic) sympathy in this hour of sorrow.

Obituary, probably from The Kaufman Herald:

Mrs. Philip Cave, who lived with her son, Mr. George Cave, a mile north of Kaufman, died Sunday of grip of the brain and was buried Monday in the city cemetery. Her funeral was conducted by Bros. Mizell and Dickey.

Grandma Cave was born in London, England, 78 years ago and had lived in this county about 25 years. She left several living children and they were present at the funeral.

This good old lady was a pious member of the Christian church. We extend our sympathy to the sorrowing children.
