Actor. He is best remembered for his portrayal of the alluring Manuel Lopez in "Madame X" (1966). After beginning his career as a leading man on the Broadway stage upon attaining his degree in theatrical arts from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, New York, he was introduced to fellow actor Marlon Brando while attending a dinner party at the prestigious Sardi's Restaurant. Impressed by his slim physique, dark good looks, and distinctive voice, he arranged for him to begin a career in the film industry beginning with him appearing in a leading role on an episode of "CBS Repertoire Workshop". From there, he would go on to flourish as a notable character actor appearing in over 15 features; often typecast as husbands, fathers, doctors, white-collared workers, retail clerks, chauffeurs, salesmen, gigolos, cowboys, bailiffs, deputies, state troopers, detectives, policemen, reporters, indigenous people, soldiers, authority figures, wealthy bachelors, and playboys. He appeared in various guest spots on such syndicated sitcoms as "Route 66," "Naked City," "Arrest and Trial," "The Eleventh Hour," "Mr. Novak," The Alfred Hitchcock Hour," "Combat!," "Rawhide," "The Time Tunnel," "Gunsmoke," "Lancer," "Bonanza," and "Kojak". He was featured in a major role in "The Hindenburg" (1975). During his career, he was a member of the Screen Actors Guild, was supportive of the Motion Picture and Television Fund, was a member of the Hollywood Democratic Committee, had been a regular parishioner of the Catholic church, presided on his local charters of the American Red Cross and United Way, was a theatrical instructor for the Pasadena Playhouse, had been among the several founding members of the Canyon Theatre Guild, was romantically linked to such actors as George Maharis and Anthony Perkins, had been a celebrity spokesman for Paper Mate Ballpoint Pens and Arrow Clothing, and he was cited as a "Star of Tomorrow" per gossip columnist Louella Parsons. Upon his 1976 retirement, he spent the remainder of his life living in relative seclusion.
