Francisca Pyka was baptised 8 Dec 1850 at Sw. Michala, Rozmierz, Poland (LDS film 0922994), Silesian Profiles, page 153, which conflicts with her birth date on the grave marker. Her family arrived in Galveston, Texas Dec 1854, and were one of the original Polish families who settled in Bandera. Frances was the sister of my great grandmother, Constantina Pyka Adamietz (1846), and Johan Pyka (1848). Carolina and Anton Pyka were born in Texas.

Charles and Frances were married January 5, 1872 at St. Stanislaus, Bandera, where they lived until about 1895. The San Antonio 1900 census shows them living on Commerce Street with four of her five living children: Amelia, Frank, Annie, and Marrcellina, ages 27, 24, 22 and 17. Occupation for Frances and Amelia is boarding, Annie is a waitress, the youngest is in school; Charles and son Frank are blacksmiths.

Frances died two years later, age 51, and is buried by her husband in the famiy plot, near her children, Frank and Annie Gersdorff Fassnidge. See Frank's memorial for more photos.

The surname is spelled "Gersdorf" in Bandera records.
