Jerry Galford, 61, passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, due to injuries from a motorcycle accident.

He was born Dec. 18, 1949, in Cass, W.Va., the son of Raymond and Rachael Dunbar Galford.

He was a sergeant in the Warren City Police Department and retired after 30 years.

He was a graduate of the Kent State Trumbull Campus criminal justice program and the Ohio State Patrol Academy. Before joining the police department, he worked at Rockwell International in Newton Falls.

He enjoyed races, motorcycle riding, watching football and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandson Brayden.

Jerry served in the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany. After he was discharged, he moved to Warren where he met his future wife, Tammy Smith, whom he married March 28, 1981.

Jerry is survived by his loving spouse, Tammy; two daughters, Jessica and Amanda Galford of Warren; grandson, Brayden Galford; two brothers, Gary and Bobby Galford of Richwood, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ernest Galford.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the McFarland and Son Funeral Home, Warren, where family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday.

Officer Timothy A. ''Bear'' Brown, FOP Chaplin, will officiate.

Burial will take place in the Pine Knoll Cemetery with full military and FOP honors.

Material contributions may be made to the family.

Jerry was a terrific man with outstanding character. He was a wonderful friend with a heart of gold who was always there when anyone needed him. He is sadly missed by many,many friends as well as his loving wife,daughters and grandson.
Jerry's final gift was his donation of tissue which will be used to help others as he always had.
