Elisha Bond is known to have been an early settler of Wilson County, Tennessee, settling there about 1799 when he was only about 3 years of age on Hurricane Creek. Therefore, he obviously arrived there along with his parents and other siblings.
It seems obvious that Elisha’s father was John Bond, who died prior to June 18, 1816. John’s will was proven on that date by John Bond, Jr., William Palmer, Elisha Bond and Solomon Bond. Solomon Bond served as Executor along with Thomas Bunch and John Bond, Jr. (Wilson County, Tennessee County Court Minutes).
This John Bond could well have been descended from John Bond, Gent. of Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He served as a Burgess from Isle of Wight County as Capt. John Bond in 1653 and as Maj. John Bond from 1657-59 (Boddie, p. 703).
John Bond, Gent. wrote a will, dated January 16, 1668 and recorded on May 3, 1669. In it he named two sons, John and William as well as one daughter, Francis. He also names his wife, Dorothy as well as Capt. Ffrancis England, Lt. Arthur Smith and Richard Sharpe. It was witnessed by Thomas Offe (?) and William Cooke (IOWCW&AB 1, p. 63).
The Elisha Bond family made their living by farming. They first resided in Wilson County, Tennessee. They later moved to Henderson County, Tennessee, probably at Middlefork near Glendale, by 1830.
The children of Elisha and Elizabeth Bond, all of whom were born in Tennessee, were John (b. 1815), Margaret A. (1824-1829), Elijah T. (1826-1846), William H. (April 6, 1828-August 30, 1894), George Washington (May 8, 1831-February 26, 1897), Sarah E. (b. c1835), Nancy E. (1835-1899), Rachel E. (b. c1842) and Joseph (b. c1846).
