Bridget, eldest child of John and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Lahiff. Bridget Lahiff was born the ship Berar en route to Wellington, New Zealand from London, England, but always claimed Australia as her birth place. Her parents were Irish from the Burren, County Clare. They stayed for 18 months in Wellington, and then returned to Ireland. She and her sister Kate went as teenagers to Australia serving as domestic help. They then went to America settling near extended family in Providence and Newport Rhode Island. She served as a domestic helper in Newport Rhode Island
Obit: Miss Bridget Lahiff, 91 of 392 Thames St, formerly of Carroll Ave. died yesterday in a nursing home.
She was born March 17, 1864 in Melbourne, Australia, daughter of John and Elisa Fitzpatrick (sic) Lahiff. she was a member of the Rosary and Scapular Society of St Augustin's Church.
A sister, Mrs. James Collins, of this city and a brother, Peter Lahiff of Union City, New Jersey, survive.
The funeral will be held from the O'Neill Funeral Home Monday with a mass of requiem at 9 o'clock in St Augustin's Church Burial will be in St Columba's Cemetery.
