An Old Settler Gone (10 Mar 1893, Watervliet Record, Wtervliet, MI Friday):

James Kinyon died at his home three miles north of Coloma Saturday morning, March 4, 1893, of heart failure...

He was born in the town of Wales, Erie County, New York, April 15, 1815, and was 77 years, 8 months and 19 days old when he died. He was married to Malind Barto, of Erie County, N.Y., Jan. 14, 1838, and moved to Michigan in 1855, since which he has lived in Berrien County in the vicinity of Niles and Coloma.

He was the father of six children, all of whom have died except one son, Bradford Kinyon, who survives him. He lost two sons in the war of the Rebellion, and was thus a contributor to the life of the Nation. His first wife died in 1875, and he afterwards married Mrs. A. M. Earl, who survives him. He comes from a family noted for its longevity,...

He has four sisters who survive him, two of whom live in Erie County, New York, one at Hannibal, Mo., and one at Niles, Mrs. H. Kinyon Gillette, who was in attendance at the last sad rites of her brother. The Register of Deeds for this County, Joel H. Gillette, nephew of the deceased, was also at the funeral. The funeral services were held at the Congregational Church at Coloma at 2 o'clock p.m., Monday last, and were conducted by the pastor of the M.E. Church.
