Laurence Orville Falk, 82 years old, of Effingham, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Atchison Medicalodge.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at St. Ann's Parish Center, Effingham. with Fr. Ben Tremmell, OSB, as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Ann's Cemetery, Effingham. A parish rosary was said Friday, July 4, 2008, at Becker Funeral Chapel, 402 N. Third St., Effingham, with visitation to follow until 7 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the North East Kansas Hospice or the St. Ann's Church Building Fund and may be left in care of the funeral home. Laurence was born on Sept. 6, 1925, in Effingham, the son of the late Ernest B. and Margaret M. (Burg) Falk. He had attended Sunny Hill School, St. Ann's Catholic School, and Atchison County Community High School, all of Effingham. Mr. Falk worked as a truck driver for many years and as a farmer for most of his life. He retired in 1979, but continued to live on the farm until illness recently forced his move to Medicalodge. He was a member of St. Ann's Church and enjoyed gardening and fishing.

He was married to Lillian Grace (Bindel) on June 22, 1948, at St. Benedict's Church, Atchison. Mrs. Falk preceded him in death on June 8, 2007. Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth (Calvin) Page, Holton, Ruth (Raymond) Acheson, Effingham, and Helen (R. Dean) Dickson, Bendena; three sisters, Marjorie (Donald) Handke, Huron, Mary (Eugene) Handke, Atchison, and Irene (Emmett) Becker, Robinson; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
