Funeral services for Fred Castle, 78, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Leddick funeral home. Rev. Gilbert Kohler of First Baptist church will officiate and interment will be at Balcom cemetery.

Mr. Castle of 550 Bayard died Wednesday at Ionia County Memorial hospital where he had been a patient ten days. Born in Easton township October 21, 1892, he was the son of Hiram and Jennie Brower Castle. He attended the Easton school.

A veteran of World War I he was assigned to the 41st machine gun battalion.

He was married to Marguerite Bagley who died in 1942. February 19, 1945, he married Annetta Pawson in Angola, Ind., and made their home at the present residence all their married life.

He began work at Ionia State hospital in 1938 as a farm supervisor later transferring inside as security attendant. He retired in 1957.

Surviving are his wife, Annetta, two stepdaughters, Mrs. John Parker of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Lawrence Hummer of Ionia; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Joslyn and Mrs. Ruth Jackson, both of Ionia.
