Died at his home, 1331 North Sixth Street, Burlington. For 27 years, Pelatiah was the bookkeeper and manager of the Burlington Vinegar and Pickle Works. Prior to his death, he was operating a confectionary on Agency street in Burlington. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church. Pall bearers were members of the Elk lodge.

Pelatiah married Lillian E. Bird on 6 October 1880 in Wapello, Louisa county, Iowa. He was survived by his wife, along with their three daughters: Mrs. Bird Patterson, of Saint Paul, Minnesota; Mrs. Charles T. (Zylpha) Stelle, of Davenport; and Miss Lillian Richards, at home; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Patterson. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
