Freeman Lewis Newport, 52, of the West Robbins community, passed away suddenly Wednesday morning, April 5, 1989, at the Scott County Hospital. He was the son of the late Tommy Newport and the late Dora Bell Thompson Newport and was also preceded in death by one son, Lewis Wayne Newport; two sisters: Arlena Myers and Eva Newport; and three brothers: Johnny and Bud O. Newport, and Logan Cravens. Mr. Newport was attended the East Robbins Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ova Elsie Miller Newport of West Robbins; one daughter, Elsie Jane Hall and husband, John Thomas Hall of West Robbins; one son, Tony Delane Newport of West Robbins; five sisters: Audra Louise Newport of Ocala, Fla., Reba Sexton of Elgin, Theresa Valentine of St. Bernard, O., Jean Walls of Mainville, O., Opal Gwin of Tennessee Ridge; two brothers: George Newport of Odgen, Utah, and Odell Newport of Elgin; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, with Rev. Harry McCarty officiating. Leon and Sarah Newport sang. Burial was in the Concord Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Keith Hamby, Dwayne Hamby, Danny Hamby, Eddie Hamby, Dares Hamby, and Hurstle Norman.
