Canadian Politician. Born inSainte-Anne-of-the-Pérade, Québec, he studied at the College of Trois-Rivièàres, at the College of Lévis, at the “École Normale” of Quebec, at the Laval University in Montréal and at McGill University. He was admitted to the bar of the province of Quebec on July 8, 1901. and made King Counsel in Law in 1917. His financial and philanthopic career included serving as president of the insurance company “La Prévoyance” the Precaution from December 26, 1930 to October 26, 1936, president of the newspaper “La Presse” from 1932 to 1955, president of the newspaper “La Patrie” from 1933 to 1955, president of Canadian Printing and Lithographing Co Ltd. and of Provident Adjustment and Investing, director of the Canadian Forestry Association, vice-president of the Canadian Red Cross for Québec, governor for life of the Notre-Dame Hospital in Montréal. He was elected Liberal representative to the House of Commons for the Laurier-Outremont district in 1917. He did not represent himself in 1921. He was appointed to the Legislative Council for the division of Sorel on January 3, 1925. Seventeen years later, he was named senator for the division of Repentigny on November 19, 1942. France created him knight of the Legion of Honour in 1925. and gave him the gold medal of the French Academy in 1930. He died in function in Montreal.
