Thomas' parents were George W. Lamkin and Sarah T. (Sallie) Millner, he was born in Henry Co. VA and is on the 1850 Henry Co. VA census in his parents home but by 1860 he and family are living in Surry Co. NC.
Thomas was in the Confederacy and fought for the South. Thomas' older sister, Martha V. Lamkin, married a Gabriel A. McCraw in Surry Co. NC and they moved to Tipton Co. TN after the Civil War.
I don't know if Thomas came to visit them or helped them move to Tipton Co. TN. He shows up in Tipton Co. TN and marries Sarah Elizabeth (Bettie) McCraw in Apr. 1869, she was a cousin of Gabriel A. McCraw.
Thomas and Bettie are on the 1870 Tipton Co. TN census, their first daughter, Carrie Lee Lamkin, was born in Tipton Co. TN in May 1871. It appears Thomas and Bettie moved after Carrie's birth to Carroll Co. VA, where his parents were already living, in 1872 or 73. Their son George T. Lamkin is born in Carroll Co. VA in July 1874, had daughter Martha V. (Mattie) Lamkin in July 1875, died in May 1894 of diphtheria. They had daughter Sarah Elizabeth Lamkin, my G.gr.mother, born Feb. 1878, named after her mother but called Lizzie all her life.
Thomas' wife Bettie dies June 8, 1879 and I believe she's probably buried in this Galax City Cem. but have found no record of her on Find A Grave, her death cert. doesn't give her place of burial.
I visited this cemetery several years back and took photos of their grave markers but could find no grave for wife Bettie McCraw Lamkin.
