Samuel was one of eight sons born to R. G. Gibbs and Sarah Ann Kite Gibbs. Samuel enlisted in the CSA on April 1, 1863 in Company K, 13th Regiment Alabama Infantry.
Most of my information on Samuel and his family was obtained from the U.S. Censuses. His wife's name was listed as Narcisse (1860) and Narcissus (1870) in these censuses. An infant daughter named Sarah E. was listed in the 1860 U.S. Census, but it appears that she died before the 1870 U.S. Census was conducted. There are two children listed in the 1870 U.S. Census: R. A. and Sarah R., ages 8 and 4 respectively.
