He graduated with Platoon 215 from the San Diego MCRD.
Edgar arrived in Vietnam 8 July 1968, and was assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
Edgar was accidentally shot by a Marine on watch, upon returning to Vandergrift Combat Base from a night ambush site,14 kilometers north northwest of Ca Lu Airfield, during Operation Purple Martin.
Official cause of death was due to non-hostile accidental homicide.
Edgar was single and served his country for 1 year, 1 month and 18 days and was KIA #38,654.
He had been in Vietnam for 7 months and 26 days and was Edgar was 21 years, 4 months and 17 days old.
Survived by his father, Raymond Acunia Sr, and his brother, Raymond Jr all of Route #1, Box 116, Laveen, Arizona.
