William Byrd III was a son of William Byrd II(1785-1840) and Martha Parker. William II was a son of William Byrd/Bird I (1758-c1800) and wife Mary Byrd . This William Byrd (1758-c.1800) served in the American Revolutionary. Byrd is interchangeable with Bird in spelling.

According to the William Byrd III's Bible, he married Margaret D. Bryan(1837-1867) on April 16, 1860. ( Bible & Family Records of Bladen Co., NC Vol. 3 pg. 12. and Vol 3 pg. 69-70). Most likely in Bladen Co.,NC at her parents home,who were Nathan & Margaret "Peggy" Ann Allen Bryan. This Bible also states that their first child: Charles William Byrd was born April 16, 1862 (FAG# 10827238). [Charles William Byrd 1862-1941 married Martha Burney.] On Oct. 27, 1862, William enlisted in the CSA in Brunswick Co.,NC. On Sept. 24, 1867, William & Margaret's second child was born: Sarah Margaret Byrd. Sadly, on Nov. 29, 1867, Margaret, the mother, died from childbirth complications. Little Sarah Margaret was taken to Bladen Co., NC to be raised by her grandparents, Nathan & Margaret "Peggy" Ann Allen Bryan in the Bryan's Mill Pond Community - Bethel Twp., NC.
On July 22, 1869, William Byrd(1835-1902) married a second time to Eliza Melinda Regan(1835-1909) a daughter of Joseph Samuel Jenkins Regan & Mary Baker Regan of Robeson Co., NC. They had 3 children:
1. Mary Addie Byrd (1870 - )m. James Gaston Smith
2.Fannie Byrd (1873 - )m. David Tucker Rozier(1859-1927)
3. Evander Byrd ( 22 April 1875 - )
