Rev. Msgr. Paul Firzak,77,416 Edwards St. Bethlehem, a McAdoo native, who was pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Bethlehem, for the past three decades, died Friday at St. Luke's Hospital.

He was the son of the late Michael and Anna(Kolesar) Firczak. A graduate of Lehigh University, he entered the seminary at Uzhorod, Czechoslovakia, and completed his theological studies in 1936. Following his ordination at the Cathedral of Uzhorod, Firczak was assistant pastor of St. Mary's in Whiting, Ind.; administrator of St. Basil's Byzantine Catholic Church, East Chicago, Ill., and a pastor at St. Michael's, Mont Claire, Montgomery County.

In 1944, he started a parochial day school, the fifth one in the Pittsburgh Byzantine Catholic Diocese. He then was named to the following posts: administrator of St. Mary's Church, Coatesville, Chester County, 1947; Pastor of St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittsburg,1950; procurator of the Byzantine Catholic Seminary in 1953, and diocesan consultor in 1954. Firzcak was appointed a member of the Diocesan Council of Administration of the Pittsburgh Diocese in 1955 and later that year returned to eastern Pennsylvania as administrator of Ss. Peter and Paul's Beaver Meadow. In 1958, he became pastor of the Bethlehem parish that his brother, the late Rev. Vladimir Fircak, had served. in 1961, he was appointed the Vicar Forance of the Philadelphia Deanery.

Pope Paul VI elevated him to the rank of Papal Chamberlain in 1966 and to Domestic Prelate in 1977. Firczak also served as consultor of the Passaic Diocese, Dean of the South Pennsylvania Deanery, and judge on the Diocesan Tribunal. He was a member of the board and national spiritual advisor of the Greek Catholic Union.

Surviviing is a sister,Anna Meklos,Phoenixville, Chester County.
Services will be held at 7p.m. tonight and Tuesday at Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church. A mass will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the church. Interment will be held Wednesday at ST. JOHN'S BYZANTINE CATHOLIC CEMETERY,HAZLETON. Calling hours will be today from 6 to 9p.m. and Tuesday 5 to 9 p.m. in the church. Arrangements are by the John Shupp Funeral home,812 E.
