Joab Muench Devenport, born October 9, 1884 in Oak Ridge, Missouri, son of Julia Destimona Minch and James Wooster Devenport. He married Amanda Biffle on December 16, 1905. Joab, known as Joe, & Amanda owned a farm a few miles from Old Union Methodist Church, in Marquand, Missouri.
Their five children, four daughters and one son, were between ages of eight and one. when Joe and Amanda moved to Idaho ca 1915. They traveled by Immigrant Rail Car to Camas County, Idaho. WW I began, followed by the "Great Depression." It was not an easy time for Joe and his family. In 1934, he enlisted in Civilian Conservation Corps. Amanda died in 1937, and is buried in Glens Ferry, Idaho. Joe went from town to town and state to state, taking jobs as a carpenter. When WW 2 began, he worked in Alaska for Morris Kanudson Construction Co., and was also a filer on Dutch Harbor, Aleutian Islands. Joe died on October 2, 1968, at Mt. Carmel Hospital, Colville, WA. where he had resided with a daughter in his declining years.
Joseph is buried in Summit Valley Cemetery, Addy, Stevens County, WA.
