Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist Church in Patton for Mrs. Jane Long , 70 years old of near Marquand, who died Sunday in St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau as a result of burns received earlier in the day when she walked too close to a wood stove and her clothing became ignited at her home. Rev. James Mills and Rev. George Mills conducted the rites and burial was in the church cemetery with Baker Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Long, the former Miss Henrietta Jane Devenport, was born November 25, 1886 at Oak Ridge. She was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. James Devenport. She was married to James Biffle about 55 years ago and he died in 1942. On April 23, 1950 she married W. J. Long. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, James Biffle and a daughter, Mrs. o. Knowles of St. Louis; five step-children, Bernie Long of Robinson, IL., Ernest Long of Lincoln, NEb., Everett Long of Patton, Mrs. Esther Polen of Millersville and Mrs. Grace Yamnitz of Perryville;four brothers, Joe Devenport of Idaho, Fred Devenport of Mayfield, Andrew and Carl Devenport of St. Louis; two sisters,Mrs. Minnie Criddle of Whitewater and Mrs. Rica Mills of Marquand and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
