Chief's Find In Burned Home

"This morning, Chief Engineer Ball, of the Fire Department found under a mattress of a bed in Mrs. Comerford's sleeping apartment, three bank books, two in the name of the deceased, Sarah Comerford, one of them being issued by the Central Bank of this city and the other by the Hibernia Banking Association of San Francisco. The third book was issued by the later organization also but was in the name of Philip Comerford.

The chief also found a large tin box in the closet in the old ladys sleeping apartment, and in this, among a number of papers, including insurance policies and receipts were found two deeds, bearing date of October 1902, drawn up by Fitzgerald and Abbott but never recorded. One of these conveys to Philip Comerford property near Forty-First Street and Telegraph Avenue and the other to Elizabeth Webster the property owned by the deceased on Seventeenth Street, near West.

Chief Ball turned the bank books over to Dr. O'Rourke and the doctor put them in the safe keeping of his sister."

Fire Victim Leaves Will

"The last will of Sarah Comerford, who died on October 24th in this city, was filed today for probate, and her daughter, Elizabeth Webster of Petaluma, petitioned to be executrix. Mrs. Comerford left an estate of $5,100. Her will, executed May 13, 1896, left a legacy to her son of $100.00 but he died prior to the death of his mother. The will further provides that the estate be divided share and share alike between Elizabeth Webster, daughter and Philip Comerford, son of the decedent.

James F. Smith of San Francisco and Hugh S. Dimond of Fruitvale were witnesses to the will.

Mrs. Comerford was the aged woman who was burned to death in her house at 813 Seventeenth Street."
