Elida C. Guevara of Plano, Texas, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 22, 2010, at 6:36 p.m. in the Medical Center of Plano at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 27 days.
Elida was born Oct. 25, 1924, in Karnes County, the daughter of Maria Amador and Rudolfo Cordova Sr. She was a cook for many years at the Texas State Hospital in San Antonio. Elida later moved from Floresville to Plano in 2004.
Elida was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Simon G. Talamantez; her second husband, Francisco Guevara; her brothers, Aurelio Cordova, Richard Cordova , and Rudolfo Cordova ; and her granddaughter, Audrie Ann Talamantez.
Elida is survived by her children, Simon C. Talamantez and wife Patty, Alice T. Latham and husband Tim, and Jesse C. Talamantez and wife Betty Jo, all of Plano, and Diana Prince of Sachse; her brother, Leonard Cordova of Floresville; her sisters-in-law, Elodia Cordova, Esther Cordova, and Oralia Cordova, all of Floresville; her seven grandchildren, Johnny Beene, Natalie Talamantez, Roger Herrera, Weldon Ryan Latham, Michael Talamantez, Lettie Peterson, and Adrianne Prince; her four great-grandchildren, Steven Beene, Gavin Talamantez, Kiersten Herrera, and Marissa Peterson; and her great-great-grandson, Dakota Beene.
Visitation was held at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 25, and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, officiated by Father Phillip Henning.
Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Austin Talamantez, Weldon Ryan Talamantez, Roger Herrera, Jimmy Cordova, Sam Cordova, and Ruben Silva.
