Margaret Hagood Copeland was born the first daughter of Mary Emily Juhan Hagood and her husband, Jasper Louis Hagood on March 9, 1905. She was married in to Allen Huson Copeland. Margaret was a graduate of Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia, and was an elementary school teacher. She began her teaching career at Sunny Hill School in Gwinnett. Her brother-in-law, Thomas Elry Cash, Sr. was the principal there. In the 1950's, she began teaching first grade at Lawrenceville Elementary through the 1958 school year. At the end of that year, she moved to Miami Springs, Florida and was teaching school there at her death on October 4, 1968. Her husband, Hugh Copeland was associated in business in Florida, where the family lived from 1938 until 1951 when they returned to Lawrenceville, Georgia. Margaret Copeland is buried beside her husband in Shadowlawn Cemetery on the Copeland-Juhan lot. Her aunt, Miss Bettie Juhan and one of her brothers, Frank M. Hagood are buried on the lot. She was survived by daughter, Martha C. Hazlett, son-in-law, Bill Hazlett, and son, Allen Huson Copeland, Jr. (d.1986)and his wife, Betsy English Copeland. Grandchildren surviving: William I. Hazlett, Jr., Martha Ann Hazlett, Hugh Thomas Hazlett, and Timothy Wayne Hazlett. Also surviving grandchildren John Copeland and Bruce Lee Copeland. Margaret Hagood Copeland was also survived by sisters Mary Tanner and Annie Cash, and by brother Ben Hagood. She was the sister of the late Victor, Asbury, Frank, Ivie and Jasper Louis Hagood, Jr.
